Dr. Paul Schempp

Dr. Paul Schempp has dedicated his professional life to helping people reach their full potential through award-winning research, testing what it takes to achieve greatness. At the University of Georgia, where Paul is a professor and the Director of the Sports Instruction Research Laboratory, he has spent more than two decades studying the characteristics and development of expertise and human performance. From his research with elite coaches and athletes, Paul has developed programs for the business world that help leaders become business champions.

Often called “The Coaches’ Coach,” Paul is a consultant to coaches in the NBA, the Olympics, and the PGA on player development and mental training. He also coaches several champions on the PGA golf tour. In addition to speaking engagements and retreats in business and industry, Paul has designed performance programs for the Swedish Golf Federation and Chinese Taipei Olympic teams by applying research to practice.

Anis Bel is a senior in the Wood Science and Engineering program at Oregon State University. Anis grew up in Maui, Hawaii, where he found his passion for design and production of secondary wood products. After he receives his degree, he dreams of beginning a career in product or furniture design.


Chelsea Brown

Lumber Trader, Patrick Lumber Company

Chelsea Brown is a Colorado native, and currently a lumber trader at Patrick Lumber company in Portland, Oregon. Specializing in high-grade pacific northwest softwoods and Doug Fir Structural timbers working directly with the largest custom cutter in North American. Chelsea has now been in the Lumber industry for 12 years. Chelsea’s long-term focus is to be the first female president of Patrick Lumber Company. Chelsea serves as a co-chairman of the NAWLA Education Committee and was selected to be in the inaugural YELP class of 2020. In her free time Chelsea enjoys staying active, traveling, good wine and quality time with her family and friends.

Tad brings more than 20 years of experience in lumber grading, product quality and optimization. He has been with TP since 2014 and prior was with Canfor. Tad holds active certifications in Business Process Improvement and Lean Six Sigma from the TBM Institute and University of Villanova.


Derek Cone

Business Operations Manager, Capital Lumber Company

Derek D. Cone has been Business Operations Manager at Capital since March of 2018.  He oversees the IT department and leads operational initiatives aimed at improving current branch processes.  Prior to this role, he was Business Manager of the Sacramento branch from September 2016 to March 2018, and Business Manager of the Salt Lake branch from May 2014 to September 2016.  He joined Capital in May 2013 as an intern in the Accounting department.  Derek is a certified public accountant and holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Arizona State University.

Student, Oregon State University

Chloe is studying Renewable Materials, an option of Science and Engineering and a minor in Statistics, at Oregon State University. She chose this program of study to be a part of the future of plant-based materials and wood products manufacturing. After Chloe graduates, she plans to either pursue a graduate degree in wood science or work in process efficiency for a wood products manufacturing facility.

Prior to joining WRCLA he was an Executive Director with an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity.

Lisa Ritchie is a founding member of the Affinity HR Group team and has over 20 years’ experience in recruiting, sales and management. She spent over 13 years in the staffing industry, holding such positions as Staff Recruiter, Sales Manager, and Branch Manager. During her tenure as Branch Manager for Adecco, a global outplacement and temporary staffing agency, she led recruiting efforts for companies of all shapes and sizes, including large financial institutions and regional call center operations facilities. Having also been a small business owner, Lisa understands the unique staffing and recruitment issues faced by small businesses. Lisa holds a BBA from James Madison University and is based in Richmond, Virginia.
